Going to choose a color for your walls? Here are the tips before you give a start to the paint works:

  • A flat paint has the lowest tune among all the colors. These are chosen for low-activity places like bedrooms, halls, dining rooms etc. Using a flat paint is the best way for hiding any defect on the walls.
  • Low-luster or stain colors are the good for kid’s rooms as the walls of such rooms requires regular clean up.
  • Semigloss paints are fine with better color reflection in comparison to low-luster colors.These are extensively used in washrooms, kitchens as these places are subjected to maximum amount of moisture and frequent clean up.
  • Go for glossy paints. These have the maximum shining effects. So these are extensively used for the places with much traffic activities. A shade of glossy paint best suits the trims and cabin doors.

    Before Painting:

    Hiring a painter is a costly affair in this age of cost-cutting. We must try our hands in the domestic maintenance works. Let’s start with knowing the basics of coloring the room walls.

  • Selecting the Brushes: There are two categories of painting brushes, 1. Natural bristles; and 2. Synthetic bristles. Brushes with synthetic-bristle are the best choice for latex paints. You may opt for natural or synthetic-bristle brushes for oil-base paintings. A wall-brush does the best job covering a large area in less time because of its wide shape and large expanses. One can do best detailing works (like coloring a window) a wall-brush. The window frames and doors can be easily covered with a trim brush. For holding maximum amount of paint get a brush tapered at the tip.
  • The Rollers: Chose a natural or synthetic roller for oil based paint whereas a synthetic roller is ideal for latex paint. If the surface to be painted is sufficiently rough the roller nap must be longer.
  • Tapes: Tapes of different sizes are one of the essential tools for painting. Areas like door knots, windowpanes, or baseboard will be covered off carefully as these things are not painted.
  • Quality Work Demands Patience

  • Start with the edges of the walls and finely take it to the mid-area. For an errorless painting job, avoid opening a new can of paint in the middle of a wall. This will certainly cause variation with color separation marks on a mid-wall.
  • A clean rag is the best helper for wiping up of drips and spills of paint.
  • For application of multiple quotes, let the wall to dry before applying a new quote. A before time application of a quote may everything into futile. So, be careful and keep patience throughout your painting job.
  • These are not the pros and cons of painting. But, certainly the effective tips for a beginner. Study these tips and apply the knowledge you have gained while choosing the colors, buying tools, and finally painting the walls. Of course cost will be reduced and you will no more remain a layman.
